Create, Understand and Check Presentations with Confidence.

PresentAble gives blind people a new way to create, edit, understand and check PowerPoint presentations using JAWS for Windows.

Creating a presentation involves much more than writing the words. Where are the pictures? Does the text fit? Are the colours sufficiently distinct? Is one object covering another? Will a screen reader encounter the contents in a sensible order? These are important questions, but they can be extremely difficult for a blind person to answer independently when working in a highly visual application.

PresentAble has been designed to put more of that control into your hands. Instead of expecting you to arrange objects using sight, it provides a structured, keyboard-driven environment built from familiar Windows controls. You supply the ideas, choose suitable layouts, add and organise the material, and use accessible reports to understand the result.

When your presentation is ready, PresentAble exports a standard PowerPoint file which can be shared with colleagues, teachers, students, clients or an audience.

Why PresentAble Is Different.

PresentAble is not simply a collection of additional keystrokes for PowerPoint. It provides an accessible authoring environment in which the structure of the presentation is exposed clearly through speech and Braille.

You can concentrate on what each slide is intended to communicate rather than attempting to manipulate a visual canvas. Choose a layout such as title and bullets, text left with an image on the right, a large image with short accompanying text, a table, an image-only slide or one of several multimedia arrangements. PresentAble places the content according to the selected layout, while still allowing you to review and refine your choices.

This is just as valuable when someone else has created the presentation. Import an existing PowerPoint file and explore its slides, text, pictures, tables, notes, links, formatting and reading order through an interface designed for JAWS users. PresentAble is therefore both a creation tool and a practical way to understand, adapt and improve presentations received from sighted colleagues.

Start with a Blank Presentation or Material You Already Have.

You can begin with an empty presentation and build it slide by slide, but that is not the only way to work. PresentAble can also create presentations from:

This means you can prepare your ideas in the format you find most comfortable, then bring them into PresentAble for editing, formatting, checking and export.

Build Rich, Professional Slides.

PresentAble supports far more than titles and bullet points. You can:

Pictures, recordings and other local media are embedded in the PresentAble project and in the exported PowerPoint file. This makes it easier to keep the complete presentation together when moving it to another computer or sharing it with someone else.

Understand What You Have Created.

PresentAble does not stop when the content has been entered. It helps you examine the presentation and identify matters which may need attention.

Its accessibility checks can report missing slide titles, missing image or table descriptions, unsuitable reading order, possible colour contrast concerns, crowded content and other structural issues. Results are organised by severity, and you can move from a result to the relevant item to investigate or repair it.

If Microsoft PowerPoint is installed, PresentAble can analyse the exported slides more deeply. It can measure the finished result and report problems such as text extending beyond the space available or objects overlapping. These are precisely the visual difficulties which a blind author may otherwise not discover until another person examines the file.

You can also read an overview of the complete presentation or enter Rehearsal, allowing you to work through the slides, speaker notes and image descriptions in presentation order. Local recordings can be previewed during rehearsal. This gives you a practical way to prepare for the real event rather than merely checking isolated pieces of content.

Everyday Editing Tools Are Included.

PresentAble includes an offline spell checker designed for the different kinds of text contained within a presentation. You can check a selected passage, a slide title, a content item, speaker notes, image descriptions, table cells or a complete selected slide. UK and US English dictionaries are included, together with suggestions, Change all, Ignore all and a personal dictionary.

You can also find and replace text throughout the presentation, use Undo and Redo, compare saved projects, and recover earlier work through backups, version history and unsaved-work recovery.

Create Once and Reuse Your Best Work.

Many presentations contain material which is needed repeatedly. PresentAble allows you to save an entire project as a template, providing a familiar starting collection of slides for future work.

Individual slides can also be saved in a reusable-slide library. An About Me slide, company profile, accessibility statement, contact slide or professional biography can be inserted into another presentation without rebuilding it. Reusable slides can retain their text, notes, links, pictures, tables, recordings, formatting and reading order.

Templates and reusable slides can be stored in folders of your choice, including synchronised folders when you want to share a library between computers or colleagues.

Designed Around JAWS, Speech and Braille.

PresentAble works with JAWS for Windows and has been designed from the beginning for keyboard use.

Guided speech can explain the purpose of a control when you pause on it, making it easier to learn the product gradually. Short action confirmations tell you what has just happened. Braille users can review control names, control types, shortcuts, hints and status information through a connected Braille display.

Detailed context help is available for individual controls. A searchable Command Centre helps you find actions without remembering every keystroke, and a complete keyboard command list is included in the documentation. As your confidence grows, additional guidance and confirmations can be reduced or turned off.

Optional OpenAI Assistance.

PresentAble includes optional OpenAI functions which can assist with particular visual tasks. They can:

These functions are optional. You can create, edit, spell check, add your own pictures, write descriptions, build tables, add media, run the standard accessibility checks and export PowerPoint files without using OpenAI.

The optional functions require an OpenAI API key with API billing. This is separate from a ChatGPT subscription. PresentAble normally shows the request for review before it is submitted, so you can examine what will be sent and decide whether to approve the paid operation. An existing OpenAI API key used by Leasey can be used when available on the computer.

Created from Lived Experience.

PresentAble has been produced by Hartgen Consultancy in collaboration with Jonathan Simeone, a blind lawyer who has created dozens of PowerPoint presentations and delivered them to thousands of people.

Jonathan enjoys creating and delivering presentations, but for more than a decade he wanted a more accessible and independent way to produce them. PresentAble grew from that experience. It is not an abstract attempt to imagine what a blind presenter might need; it has been shaped by someone who has done the work, encountered the frustrations and wanted something better.

Who Is PresentAble For?

PresentAble may be particularly valuable to:

System Requirements and Demonstration Mode.

PresentAble requires JAWS for Windows version 2022 or later. An internet connection is needed for product activation.

Microsoft PowerPoint is not required for creating, editing, importing, saving or exporting presentations. It is required for the additional measured analysis of exported slides and for OpenAI review of a rendered slide.

Demonstration Mode allows you to try PresentAble for up to 30 JAWS restarts. A purchased licence may be used on multiple computers, provided JAWS is activated with the same serial number on each computer.

Comprehensive Documentation.

PresentAble is a substantial product, and its documentation has been written to introduce it carefully. The guide contains step-by-step examples which take you from your first simple presentation through importing, editing, pictures, tables, recordings, formatting, accessibility checking, rehearsal, templates, reusable slides, backups, sharing and the optional OpenAI functions.
