Hi to all
You will know from past discussions that a new web-based version of the WhatsApp application was in production.
WhatsApp is an application on which many of us have come to rely upon for keeping in touch, participating in groups and for work purposes in some cases.
While it was accessible, I created JAWS scripts for this application which are available as part of our Leasey product and for sale separately.
I began work on this project in May of 2022. It has taken therefore over three years to perfect the highly efficient messeging application many of us use daily.
The new web-based version has started to roll out to some people. We have one machine currently where this can be tested on a limited basis. If you find that your existing JAWS access is not functioning, this is likely to be the reason. You will probably know this is going to happen because you will be requested to link WhatsApp to your computer again via your phone.
I have now begun work on the new scripts. Because this is a web-based application, ordinarily navigated with the JAWS Virtual Cursor, the process of writing scripts has to begin again. I cannot use anything which is in place now. As and when there is functionality to test, it will be tested by our beta testers first and then it will be released when everything is stable.
But for the next few months, access to WhatsApp may be a little bumpy to say the least.
The work only was started this week, but we do have:
Keystrokes to move to specific parts of the application, such as the chat list within a conversation.
Keystrokes to make audio and video calls, to output the name and status of a contact, etc.
The sound which plays out when a message is sent.
Message reading keystrokes, such as ALT+1 to read the most recent message in a conversation, ALT+2 for the next most recent, and so on.
In summary, this is new territory and the initial release of the scripts almost certainly will not contain all the functionality you enjoy currently. But over the coming months it is hoped that most of it will be restored. Updates will be announced as and when further progress is made.
