Welcome to the upgrade document for J-Say version 24!
J-Say 24.0 supports Dragon NaturallySpeaking version 16.1. Dragon NaturallySpeaking version 15 series will continue to be supported for some time to come. However the recommendation now is to upgrade to Dragon 16.1 if possible due to changes within Windows11 and Microsoft Office.
If you have J-Say 23 installed, you can install any update over the top of the existing installation. You do not need to uninstall the previous version first.
During 2025, a great deal of time has been spent with customers who are using Dragon 16.1, so as to ensure that the screen-reading commands are working correctly. There have been some difficulties with interaction between JAWS and Dragon 16.1 and It is very much hoped that these difficulties are now in the past. 17 Updates to J-Say 23 were released in 2025.
This update provides full compatibility with JAWS 2026. The latest release of JAWS has vast improvements over 2025 in terms of stability and particularly responsiveness. It is highly recommended therefore that you use J-Say 24 with JAWS 2026.
J-Say 24 also supports the new Page Explorer feature of JAWS.
The new Page Explorer feature gives you an instant overview of any web page so you can decide how best to navigate it. Remember that browsing the web is probably the most difficult task a voice recognition user has to do, so anything which improves upon that is a significant advantage.
Once a page finishes loading, say “Start Page Explorer”, and JAWS briefly summarizes the page’s layout, describes its main content, and provides any helpful tips for efficient navigation including keystrokes.
If you have read our J-Say Learning Module, or received high quality training, you ought to be able to translate these keystroke references into voice commands.
Key benefits of Page Explorer include:
Faster orientation to complex pages by helping you quickly understand what a page contains without having to navigate element by element.
Receive navigation tips tailored to the current page to help you locate the information you need sooner. For example, on a page containing several tables, this could include a summary of the content of each table and how to work with them.
Ask follow up questions about the current page right inside Page Explorer to get more details about specific elements or content. For example, if you are on a page containing a lengthy article, you might ask Page Explorer to briefly summarize the article, highlighting the key take aways.
There is also an area which displays the most useful links on the page, each of which can be activated without the need to find them on the page itself.
